Study in China Q&A

What is the Chinese Government Scholarship Information System?

Unofficial answer · Sources checked

It is the China Scholarship Council's online application portal for the Chinese Government Scholarship. Applicants create an account on it at studyinchina.csc.edu.cn (reached from campuschina.org), fill in the Application Form for Chinese Government Scholarship, and submit it there — step 4 of the application process printed in the CSC's own guide. It is the place where the form is completed; choosing a university, obtaining admission documents and getting a recommendation are separate steps handled by the university and by an application receiving agency.

What the login page shows

This section describes the public login page only. The English view carries the heading "Chinese Government Scholarship Information System", a "New User? CREATE AN ACCOUNT" link, and a language switch between 中文 and English. The sign-in box offers two kinds of user — "Applicant/Student User" and "Other User" — and asks for an "Email/CSC No." and a password. The page footer names the China Scholarship Council and carries the copyright line "Copyright www.csc.edu.cn All Rights Reserved".

The login page does not explain the application steps. Those appear in the scholarship guides.

Where the system sits in the application process

The Application Guide for Chinese Government Scholarship prints the process in section V, "Application Process", in seven numbered steps. Steps 1 to 3 come before the online form: learn about designated universities and majors by visiting campuschina.org or other means and identify the preferred programme, university and major; reach the designated university for admission documents; reach an application receiving agency for a recommendation. Step 4 is the system itself: "An applicant shall fill in and submit the Application Form for Chinese Government Scholarship online via the Chinese Government Scholarship Information System."

Steps 5 to 7 follow submission: the receiving agency submits the recommended candidates list and the application documents; the CSC organises designated universities and experts to examine eligibility and academic performance before finalising the short-list; the CSC notifies the admission results to the receiving agency, which then informs the applicant.

Filling in the form: the steps one guidebook prints

The Guidebook to the ASEAN-China Young Leaders Scholarship prints its own "Instructions for Chinese Government Scholarship Information System (CGSIS)" in section V, in eight steps. These instructions are that scholarship's. The program category and agency number below belong to this scholarship, and the guidebook itself says that scholarship receiving authorities or application processing authorities inform candidates who are qualified to apply.

The steps as that guidebook prints them:

  1. Visit the "CSC Study in China" website and click "Scholarship Application for Students" at campuschina.org. Register through "CREATE AN ACCOUNT" and log in.
  2. Click "Edit Personal Details" and fill in, verify and save all personal details, then return to the previous page and start the application information.
  3. Choose the correct "Program Category". For this scholarship: "Type A".
  4. Input the correct Agency Number. For this scholarship: 0025.
  5. Move on to "Language Proficiency and Study Plan" and upload "Supporting Documents" as requested, then click "Submit".
  6. Once submitted, no amendment can be made to "Personal Details" or "Application Information". Before the application is processed, you can revoke it by clicking "Withdraw", edit it, and then submit a second time — otherwise it will not be processed. Once it is processed it cannot be revoked.
  7. Click "Print the Application Form" and download the form.
  8. Submit the scholarship application under the requirements of the dispatching authorities or application processing agency.

Program Category and Agency Number are directly matched, and both are mandatory. After you input the agency number, the matched agency name appears on the page automatically. If either the category or the number is wrong, the application processing authorities will not receive your online application; the guidebook's closing note repeats that an application with an incorrect agency number will not be processed.

For applicants of "Type A", the guidebook adds that when you choose "Preferences of Institutes" the system automatically matches available universities to your chosen "Student Category" and "Preferred teaching language". It points to the university list at campuschina.org/universities/index.html for the majors each university offers, and says the "Catalog of Discipline Field, First-level Discipline, Specialty" file can be downloaded from "Help" to see how discipline and major relate.

Three practical notes are printed with the steps: use Firefox or Internet Explorer 11.0, and close the "compatible view mode" in Internet Explorer before editing; fill in all application information in Chinese or English; and check every part before submitting, because the information and uploaded documents must be valid and accurate.

The guidebook also states that the China Scholarship Council never entrusts any individual or intermediary agent to process Chinese Government Scholarship applications, tells applicants to submit directly through official dispatching authorities to avoid being deceived, and names campuschina.org as the only official website on which the CSC publishes Study in China information.

What the official pages do not say

The Application Guide for Chinese Government Scholarship carries no publication date and no academic year. The Guidebook to the ASEAN-China Young Leaders Scholarship gives no application deadline date; its focal point list is headed "As of 2026". The Application Guide for Chinese Government Scholarship states no program category or agency number, and the ACYLS guidebook gives them only for its own scholarship (Type A, 0025) — ask the dispatching or receiving authority handling your application which category and number to use.

Not directly. The guidebook says that once submitted, no amendment can be made to "Personal Details" or "Application Information". Before the application is processed you can click "Withdraw", edit it and submit again; after it is processed it cannot be revoked.

Who submits my application, and does the CSC use agents?

You submit under the requirements of your dispatching authority or application processing agency, which forwards the recommended list and documents. The guidebook states that the CSC never entrusts any individual or intermediary agent to process Chinese Government Scholarship applications and names campuschina.org as its only official Study in China website.
